Background: Traditional Mongolian medicine has developed dozens of methods for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases in the course of 5000 years of historical development. Today, some of these methods are still used to protect the health of our population. In the ancient medical texts of traditional Mongolian medicine, written in Tibetan, Manchu, and Mongolian languages, information, and facts about shar us (yellow water), its origin, role, mechanism of transformation into disease, and treatment methods were recorded. In particular, there have been many mentions of Seng ldeng-4 decoction for the treatment of shar us. Aim: To clarify the past and present use of Seng ldeng-4 decoction from ancient medical books and sources. Materials and Methods: We used the following study methods: multipurpose system method, manuscripts, primary source methods, and checklist method. Results: The ancient medical books clearly recorded the early use of Seng ldeng-4 decoction. Especially in Mongolian ancient researcher, Jigmeddanzanjamts wrote in his book “mthong ba dga’ byed”: Seng ldeng-4 decoction will be composed with four raw materials such as barura, arura, jurura, and seng lden. It is noted to cure swelling and edema. Seng ldeng-4 decoction is mainly used to remove the warmth of shar us (yellow water) and dry edema. Conclusions: 1. Luvsandorji’s “Ambrosia Essence” sutra will be composed by seng lden 080, arura 045, white jilze (Gentiana crassicaulis Duthie ex Burk) 040, and yellow wood (Berberis sibirica) 040. It is written that this decoction will cure the warm disease of shar us. Since then, it has become known as Seng ldeng-4 decoction. 2. Doctor Ts. Surenjav in his work, based on Jigmeddanzanjamts’ “mthong ba dga’ byed” medical sutra, made a standard for the composition of Seng ldeng-4 decoction, that 3.2 grams of arura and jurura, 9.4 grams of barura, and 16 grams of seng ldeng should be carefully mixed together.
