Keywords:
Epicatechin, Chromatography, Microstructure, PharmacopoeiaAbstract
Background: Stems and branches of the Mongolian drug Senden are used in many recipes in Mongolian medicine. It contains triterpenoids and their glycosides, flavonoids, coumarins, quinones, steroids, and other components, and has apparent anti-inflammatory effects, activities for pain relief, and blood circulation improvement. Although some studies have been done on the chemical composition and pharmacological activities of Sendeng, standardization studies have yet to be conducted, and the pharmacopoeia monograph has yet to be developed. Aim: This study was conducted to determine the methodology for quality testing and establish criteria for standardization. Materials and Methods: A standardization study was conducted on Senden collected from seven places in Inner Mongolia. Some quality parameters were determined; epicatechin, the primary active substance contained in the plant, was revealed, and a methodology was developed to determine epicatechin content. Results: The moisture of Sendeng was 4.9-5.8%, the average was 5.5%; total ash was 5.57-7.26%, an average was 6.55%; acid-insoluble ash was 1.4-2.8%, an average was 2.2%; the 95% extractive compound ranged from 8.99-11.85%, with an average of 10.17%. Epicatechin, the main active ingredient in Senden, was revealed in the cyclohexane-acetone-glacial acetic acid (4:4:0.2) solvent system. The amount of epicatechin was determined by the method established by the research results. The epicatechin content in Senden was determined by the method established by this research results. Senden prepared from Daban contains the highest amount of epicatechin (11.687±0.006 mg/g), and Senden prepared from Jalut has the lowest amount of epicatechin (6.39±0.06 mg/g). Conclusion: The presence of Wood fibers, calcium oxalate crystals, crystal fibers, wood-ray cells, wood thin-walled, rimmed hole or reticulated duct, and irregular brown masses were determined in the microstructure of Senden. It was determined that the biologically active compound epicatechin is contained in Senden. The amount of epicatechin in Senden collected from seven places in Inner Mongolia is 6.39-11.687 mg/g. Senden prepared from Daban contains the highest (11.687±0.006mg/g), and Senden prepared from Jalut has the lowest (6.39±0.06mg /d) content of epicatechin.
