Background: A number of potential candidate genes have been implicated in the pathogenesis of asthma. One of them is IL-33, proposed to influence asthma susceptibility. Aim: To associate CCR5 gene rs333, IL-33 gene rs16924159 and rs928413 polymorphisms with the risk and characteristics of bronchial asthma. Materials and Methods: rs928413 and rs16924159 polymorphisms of IL-33 gene were included in a case-control study conducted on 201 Mongolian patients with asthma and 201 controls. Allele-specific polymerase chain reaction was performed for genotyping. Results: Univariate regression analysis showed that the frequencies of A allele (OR=1.83, 95% CI, 1.35-2.48, p<0.001), А/А genotype (OR=4.09, 95% CI, 1.96-8.55, p<0.001) of rs16924159 were significantly higher in case group. Comparing by genetic models, which were recessive, dominant, incomplete dominant for A allele of rs928413, rs16924159 indicates significant association for asthma risk. In recessive model, A/A genotype of both polymorphism, statistically associated with increased risk of asthma. Conclusion: Our result suggested that rs928413 and rs16924159 polymorphism of IL-33 might be the genetic risk factor for asthma.
