Abstract

Background: During the fetal development, all human organ systems are clearly related to each other and grow differently. The reason for conducting this study is that there is very little research done on the relationship between facial bones in the fetus. Aim: Determining the correlation between fetal facial bone morphometric parameters Materials and Methods: In our study, we extracted the facial bones of 23 fetuses stored in the laboratory of the anatomy department, measured the morphometric parameters of the facial bones, determined the weeks of fetal age, and determined the correlation between the parameters using Pearson’s correlation analysis using a bicorrelation matrix. Results: We measured the morphometric parameters of the fetal facial bones and determined them by weeks of fetal age. However, when the bicorrelation matrix determines the correlation between these parameters by Pearson’s correlation analysis, the bicorrelation matrix shows that all the above parameters are not the same. We observed the highest and strongest direct correlation between bioorbital width and maxillary sinus width (0.98), P<0.01. Therefore, between bioorbital width and lower forehead width (0.96), at P<0.01 level, between The smallest width of the frontal bone, and Upper face height (0.94), at P<0.01 level, between skull length and upper facial width (0.91), at P<0.01 level, there is statistical significance. Among the identified parameters, the weakest direct correlation was between Eye socket width and Dacrial Width (0.03), while the weakest inverse correlation was observed between Nose width and Face base length (-0.02) and The width of the upper edge of the nasal bone and Eye socket width (-0.02), respectively. Moreover, the strongest inverse correlation was observed between the width of the nostrils and the width of the lower edge of the nasal bone (-0.20). However, no correlation was observed between the length of the base of the skull and the width of the nostrils. Conclusion: During fetal development, the correlation of the facial bones varies, indicating that they grow at a nonuniform intens.
