Abstract

Background: In hospital death pattern can illustrate general image of some parameters of healthcare system. Identifying predictors of death could be crucial role in several. Aim: To determine the pattern and predictors of death in hospitalized adult patients in Mongolia in 2020. Materials and Methods: Data from 86 hospitals providing inpatient care in Mongolia were used in the study. 1,795 hospital deaths from 296’083 hospital admissions were analyzed between the1st of January and the 30th of June in 2020. Electronic and manual medical records were used as the source material. Variables such as age, gender, hospital admission day, hospital categories of in hospital death were used because of hospital mortality predictors. Years potential life lost and geographical variables were used for the pattern of death. Results: The mean age of the participants was 56.3±15.3 years, the male gender was 59.4% and the median of hospital stay was 2.2 days. In the study, it was found out the following factors constitute a significance in terms of hospital death: a) weekend admission, b) urbanization, c) older age, and d) male gender. By the multinomial logistic regression analysis, male gender and weekend admission was significant predictor of in hospital death. By the linear model analysis, age and hospital stay were significantly correlated independently. Also test of between subjects’ effect of age and hospital stay were together significantly more correlated with death. Conclusions: Mongolian people were rarely dying in hospital setting. More young people were dying in rural hospitals than urban. Weekend admission, male gender and urbanization were independent significant predictors of death. Also, between subject-effect of them were more correlated or more predicting of in hospital death.
