Abstract

Background: Cervical carcinoma is the second most common cancer among women after liver cancer, with a prevalence of 19.1 cases per 100,000 people and 312 new registered cases as of 2021. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an important method for evaluating the location, size, extension of cervical carcinoma and infiltration in the nearby organ, as well as one of the best methods of examination for treatment planning. The reason for the choosing of the topic was based on the high incidence and mortality rate fo cervical cancer in the country, as well as the lack of reports on MRI imaging. Aim: To diagnose cervical cancer using MRI sensitive sequences and monitoring the results of CCRT (concurrent chemoradiation therapy). Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 155 patients who underwent pelvic MRI at the Radiology Department of Med Trauma Hospital between 2018 and 2022. Results: A total of 155 people aged 28-89 were surveyed, with an average age of 52.66±12.06 years. Patients over the age of 58 accounted for the largest share, 55%. The diagnostic accuracy of MRI was 72.9% in the T2 sequence, 84.9% in the T1 sequence after contrast injection, 84.9% in the T2 and contrast T1 sequences, and 92.2% in the T2 and DWI sequences. The combined use of T2 and DWI was statistically significant, with a p value of <0.05. The number of ADC increased when CCRT was successfully performed in patients with cervical cancer, was statistically significant. The mean pre-CCRT and post-CCRT ADC values for those who did not respond to CCRT were similar, and the p value was <0.05. The type of tumor growth was age-dependent and was statistically significant. Conclusion: The combination T2/DWI sequences had an accuracy of 92.2% for cervical cancer diagnosis. The quantitative and qualitative values of ADC are the main criterias for indicating the effectiveness of CCRT on cervical cancer.
