Background: Tungalag-5 traditional drug is composed of Punica granatum L, Cinnamomum cassia, Elletaria cardamom, Piper longum.L, Crocus sativus.L and used to improve digestive system, stomach, liver function in traditional Mongolian medicine. Aim: The purpose of the study were liver protective activity of Tungalag-5. The objective is to evaluate the pharmacologic effect of Tungalag-5 in chronic hepatitis caused by CCL4 by analyzing some biochemical tests. Materials and Methods: 90 healthy male wistar rat of weighing between 220-250 gm were used. Liver fibrosis model induced by Gi-ppeum Lee, Won-IL Jeong (2005) method on in the rats. Results: Effect of Tungalag-5 was assessed on some biochemical parameters following 1, 2, 3 months. The results of biochemical studies of control rat liver treated with carbon tetrachloride exhibited severe changes in the liver. For instance, group of Tungalag-5’s plasma AST level in 1, 2, 3 months by 11.1, 4.0, 9.7% decreased (p>0.05). In the control group, the level AST increased chronic liver damage. We found significant differences (p=0.05) between the treatment group. In the present study, the AST of level was decreased in the Tungalag-5 treated groups and ALP level in 1, 2, 3 months by 43, 54.1, 66.6% decreased (p=0.001). In the control group, the level ferritin increased chronic liver damage. We found significant differences (p=0.05) between the Tungalag-5 group 1, 2 months by 28.1, 25.5% decreased (p=0.001). Conclusion: The current study showed that Tungalag-5 has resulted in decreased ALT, AST activity, ferritin level and increased Albumin level in toxic hepatitis.
