Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 and its associated complications are major health problems. The ATP-dependent potassium channel of pancreatic β-cells consists of the proteins Kir6.2 and SUR1, and the potassium channel is adapted to insulin secretion. Sulfonylureas (SUR1) are encoded by the ABCC8 gene, some polymorphisms of this gene have been developed in type 2 diabetes. According to the researchers, the rs1801261 polymorphism of ABCC8 is somehow visible in T2DM. Materials and Methods: This study was designed as a case –control study. In case group 89 individual with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were selected, and in the control group8 52 individuals were considered healthy according to certain criteria. DNA was isolated from the blood and the rs1802161 polymorphism of the ABCC8 gene was assisted by the RELP-PCR method. Results: The result of study showed the age level was not statistic signification in the case and control group, while the level of BMI, glucose, glycated hemoglobin was statistic different in the type 2 diabetes mellitus group. BMI, glucose, glycated hemoglobin in the CC genotype group, glucose, glycated hemoglobin in the CT genotype case group were statistically significant. The frequency of the TT group and T allele of the rs1801261 polymorphism of the ABCC8 gene was higher in the T2DM group. Conclusions: BMI, glucose, glycated hemoglobin, triglycerides, and HDLP in our study were statistically high (p <0.05). In both homozygous heterozygous genotypes of the rs1801261 polymorphism of the ABCC8 gene, elevated glucose and glycated hemoglobin are high in the DNA group 2 and may be due to the T allele and TT genotype. Conclusions: BMI, glucose, glycated hemoglobin, triglycerides, and INLP in our study were statistically high (p <0.05).
