Keywords:
Blood lead level, lead exposure, intelligence quotientAbstract
Background: Because lead is a non-threshold substance, small amounts of lead can be harmful to health and are more susceptible to young children. The nervous system of young children is not fully developed, to exposure to lead during this period can lead to neurological and neurobehavioral defects, lowered intelligence quotient (IQ), and developmental disorders. Materials and Methods: Children aged 4-7 living ger areas in Chingeltei and Sukhbaatar districts, selected at randomly. Blood lead levels were determined using the LeadCareII Analyzer Kit. Ask parents and guardians about some of the risk factors for exposure to lead in a specially designed questionnaire. Results: 111 children aged in 4-7 years were participated. The mean blood lead level (BLL) was 5.67±2.43 mg/dL, a median 5.1 mg/dL and 51.8% of the total children’s blood lead levels were above the reference value of CDC (5 μg/dL). BLL was statistically significant differences in the sex of the child (р=0.019). Conclusions: 51.8% of the total children’s blood lead levels were above the reference value of CDC (5 μg/dL). it indicates that children are exposed to lead. Especially the boys are more exposed than girls.
