Introduction: The HIV gp41 protein binds to the CCR5 co-receptor8 allowing the virus to enter the cell. Mutation in the CCR5 gene are common in the population, of which individuals with the CCR5∆32 mutation more resistant to HIV. Among the world's population, the CCR5∆32 mutation is most common in Europe and the lowest in Asia. Methods: The study involved 90 people and tested for genetic mutations at the Institute of Virology at Heinrich Heine University in Germany. Result: The result of study showed that the CCR5∆32 mutation was 4.4% (4/90) and the R223Q mutation was 32.2% (29/90). Conclusion: The prevalence of CCR5 ∆32 and R223Q mutations in Mongolians is higher to than in Asian population.
