Throughout the world, number of incidences of Ischemic heart disease is increasing. In order to develop a basic research methodology for the development of new herbal medicines within the framework of the Traditional Medicine Strategy, a pathological model of coronary heart disease in experimental animals was developed by A.K. Kogan and M. Ambaga (1979). Therefore, this methodology showed that increased levels of proteins and enzymes that reveal cardiac cell loss and necrosis led to heart disease patterns. Determination of sialic acid content in the blood is an important diagnostic test to show arthritis, polyarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and loss of microcirculation, ischemia, cell membrane integrity during hypoxia and inflammatory activity. However, our study showed that the reduction of serum sialic acid in the test days under the influence of antishemin prevents the loss of membrane components, which may be due to the antioxidant activity of flavonoids and phenolic compounds in the composition of the pharmaceutical preparations. Materials and methods: Adult male Wistar rats, weighting approximately 200 to 250±20 gram, used for the experiment. We did coronary occlusion induced myocardial ischemia by Kogan A.K., Ambaga M. (1979) s method. Water was given to the control group, 1 mg/kg Athenolol to the comparison group, and 100 mg/kg of Antishemin to the experimental group for 21 days. Plasma sialic acid was determined on days 1, 3, 7, 14, 21 levels of the test using the rat ELISA. Results: It has been identified that during the test days antishemin reduced serum acid content by 17% -34.3% (p≤0.05) which prevents the loss of membrane components. Conclusion: As a result of this study, we conclude that decreased plasma levels of sialic acid in animals treated with antishemin indicate that cardiac cell necrosis, loss of function, and recovery of function are restored due to the presence of flavonoids and phenolic-based antioxidants in the pharmaceutical preparations.
