Keywords:

Background: Anemia occurs in 41.8% of all pregnant women. Anemic pregnant woman can lead to complications such as miscarriage, preterm birth, placental abruption, and low birth weight. It is important to treat anemia in pregnant women by identifying the causes of anemia, and lack of previous study is the basis of our study. Objective: To determine the prevalence, associated risk factors of anemia among pregnant women Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from July 1 to November 30, 2020, on 411 pregnant women who attended antenatal care at Chingentey District Hospital, Ulaanbaatar. Mothers who attended antenatal care during the study period were interviewed and anemia associated risk factors were evaluated. Results: A total of 411 pregnant women aged 16-45 years were included in this study, and 28.22% of them had anemia. The lower the body mass index of the pregnant mother (R2=0.0192, P value=0.044), the lower the hemoglobin level during pregnancy. (R2=0.0715, P value=0.00) Chronic and underlying disease in pregnant women increases the risk of anemia by 8 times (RR=8.02, p=0.000). Conclusion: The lower the body mass index of pregnant women, the higher the risk of anemia as the gestational age increases. (p=0.0424)
