Correlation between the tooth loss and hand grip strength with obesity measures
Keywords:
Tooth loss, obesity, hand grip strengthAbstract
Aim: To study the correlation between the number of tooth loss, obesity and muscle indicators. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted involving a sample size of 450 people. The tooth loss was measured by an orthodontist, while body measurements were taken by an endocrinologist. Results: 41% (n=188) of the participants were male, and the mean age was 42.9±14.4. The number of teeth taken had a positive correlation with waist circumference (on males r=0.219, female r=0.279), and a negative correlation with hand grip strength (male r=-0.276, female r=-0.255). Conclusion: Having a fewer number of teeth could be one of the factors contributing to obesity.
