Abstract

Temeen huh-4 is used for treatment of diarrhea in traditional medicine. It is composed of Holarrhena antidysenterica Wall., Aconitum kuznezofÏi Reichb., Polygonum bistorta L., and Clematis tangutica Korsh. In this study, antioxidant activity of Temeen huh-4 on in vivo were examined. In the acute toxicity study of Temeen huh-4 was determined by the method of Prozorovsky V.P (1978). Antioxidant activity of Temeen huh-4 was given orally once daily to relatively healthy wistar rats for 21 days. At the end of the experiment, serum MDA, SOD and CAT enzymes were determined by ELISA. Average lethal dose (LD50) of Temeen huh-4 was found to be 14.1 (12–17) g/kg. Administration of Temeen huh-4 (200 mg/kg) the increased serum SOD, CAT levels (p<0.05). Temeen huh-4 has antioxidant activity by increasing the serum levels of SOD and CAT enzymes.
