An overview of morphometric bony nasolacrimal canal: computed tomography study
Keywords:

Number of researchers from different countries have been exploiting the method of computed tomography (CT), one of the leading technologies of modern world, for examining nasolacrimal canal’s anatomical structure andconducting detailed analysis of morphometric indicators. Hence, this method is being applied for detecting the appropriate treatment for numerous pathologies, including primary and secondary acquired nasolacrimal canal obstruction , inflammation, trauma, mechanical and neoplastic obstruction and so on. We have reviewed the literatures on the morphometric parameters of the nasolacrimal canal using CT, published in online sources, such as Thomson Reuters, PubMed-central database and google scholar. Out of 3,140 publications related to this study, we have covered over 30 articles that examines the morphometric parameters of nasolacrimal canal using the CT and works that has main focus on this area. Summary: The analysis based on those literatures summarizes that each country has made approach from different perspective to study the structure and function of the visual organs of their populations and the factors influencing them. The length and diameter of the nasolacrimal canal is determined using modern technology taking considerations of climatic characteristics of the country and age-related changes in the structure of the organs, individual changes and morphometric parameters. Conclusions: Although the morphometric parameters of the nasolacrimal canal have been comprehensively studied by researchers in other countries, the morphometric parameters of the Mongolian’s morphometry of nasolacrimal canal are not clear. Therefore, it indicatesthat these are must be determined in Mongolia.
