Introduction: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is an autosomal dominant disorder that leads to premature cardiovascular diseases. Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the probability of familial hypercholesterolemia with Dutch lipid clinic network (DLCN) criteria in patients with hypercholesterolemia. Methods: This cross-sectional study was included 75 subjects with increased total cholesterol and cardiovascular risk factors. The history of cardiovascular risk factors was taken by questionnaires and; body weight, height, BMI, waist circumference, systolic and diastolic pressures, arcus cornealis and tendinous xanthomata were evaluated by physical examination. We determined the serum level of total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-C, HDL-C and glucose. Results: A total of 75 subjects aged between 24-73 included in the study and 45.3% (n=34) were men. The mean age of the participants was 50.6±10.8 years. As evaluating the DLCN criteria, result was 4% of patients had probable familial hypercholesterolemia. DLCN indicators was compared into 3 groups of unlikely, possible and probable familial hypercholesterolemia, high level of LDL-C (≥190mg/dL) was statistically significant. Conclusion: In this study, 32% of patients had possible and 4% of patients had probable familial hypercholesterolemia. High levels of LDL-C (≥190mg/dL) were significant relationship to familial hypercholesterolemia.
