Results of a study on smoking-related disorders and smoking behaviors in the elderly
Keywords:
Smoking-related disorders, smoking behaviors, elderlyAbstract
Tobacco use is more common in the elderly, especially men. Tobacco use has more side effects in men than in the opposite sex. In our study, we selected 378 individuals and assessed smoking habits and disease caused from smoking. Chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and coronary heart disease are more common due to smoking. There is a need for health education to dispel the misconception that smoking cessation is essential for the elderly and that smoking in the elderly has not got a negative effect on the body.
