Abstract

Patient psychology is a socio-psychological activity characterized by an organic connection and interaction between the individual and his or her illness. There is a need to study the psychological state of the patient in pre-operative preparation. We aimed to study the emotional state of the patient undergoing surgery and to determine the needs of a professional psychologist. 78.3% of patients undergoing planned and emergency surgery experienced anxiety and fear, which are decreased by 42.4%. Although 89% of physicians and 63% of nurses provide information and psychological counseling to patients about surgery, anesthesia, and the following complications during preparation, 76% of clients said they need to be a professional psychologist. It was concluded that surgical patients need specialized psychological care.
