Abstract

Background: Shiftwork has been associated with elevated blood pressure (BP) and decreased heart-rate variability (HRV), factors that may increase the long-term risk of cardiovascular-related mortality and morbidity. Numerous studies have shown that shift work, especially night shifts, affects circadian rhythms and increases the risk of chronic disease, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. In recent years, there has been conducted researchs showing that night shift work increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. Methodology: This study was conducted from August to October in 2020 and included 42 female nurses randomly selected working in State Second Central Hospital. We recorded Holter ECG and Tonoport for evaluating heart rate variability and other indicators, blood pressure fluctuation in participants. Results and Conclusion: According to our study heart rate variability of the nurses who are working in nightshift was significantly lower than of day shift workers. But there are no differences of blood pressure level between nightshift and day shift workers. We concluded that long time night shift work can lead to decrease in heart rate variability, the factor that may increase the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease morbidity.
