Background: The Colsaurin is composed of 3 medicinal herbs including Saussurea salicifolia (L).DC, Artemisia santolinifolia Turcz. Ex. and Hippophae rhamnoides L. As written in traditional medical source book, a Saussurea salicifolia L., Artemisia santolinifolia and Hippophae rhamnoides L. has been widely used in Mongolian traditional medicine, to treat infectious diseases, throat inflammation, lung disease, cough, wounds. The main goal of our study was to determine the biologically active substances in Colsaurin. Material and methods: The aerial parts of medicinal herbs were collected from wild growing plants in the Mongolian province of Khentii, Bulgan aimag and Ulaanbaatar full maturity stage in July-September, 2017. For the phytochemical research, the content of biologically activite substances in Colsaurin was identified by using thin layer chromatography (TLC). In addition, the content of biologically active substances was determined by UV spectrophotometer. Results: As results of TLC, the following biologically active substances were detected: polyphenolic compounds, phenol carboxylic acid, flavonoids, coumarin, carotenoids and essential oil in the “Colsaurin”. The UV spectrophotometry results of the research established the amount of polyphenolic compounds 4.54±0.02, total phenol carboxylic acid 1.85±0.05%, total flavonoids 1.13±0.04% total coumarins 0.47±0.01%, and total carotenoids 2.7±0.02mg% in the “Colsaurin”. Conclusion: As a result of the phytochemical study, “Colsaurin” contained a large amount of biologically active substances, including polyphenolic compounds, flavonoids, coumarins, carotenoids and essential oil.
