Abstract

Background: Saposhnikovia divaricata was registered as a destroyed plant and it has high significance of productivity. Therefore on the base of natural resources and abundant fund of traditional medicine, it is important to study of biological and pharmacological action of medicinal plant. In connection with main and side compounds, which are contained in them and to produce new medicinal plant. It is important for treatment and economy. The plant which we are studying is a valuable plant its action is widely used in decreasing temperature, relieving pain, anti-inflammation and cancer. Its chemical structure and pharmacological action have not been studied in Mongolia. This became the basis of studying this plant. Aim: To determine antiviral effects of the Saposhnikovia divaricata (Turcz) Schischk (SDS) in BHK-21 cell culture infected by the encephalitis virus. Materials and Method: Sensitive to encephalitis virus cell line BHK-21 were contaminated with specimen from experimental animals infected with encephalitis viruses. The cell culture was incubated at 370 C during 3-4 days in EAGLE cell culture medium. Cytopathic effect (CPE) was evaluated under invert microscopy. Result: The cell culture treated with Saposhnikovia divaricata has not demonstrated CPE. However, cells treated with SDS has shown a notable CPE. Conclusion: The SDS is antiviral effective in vitro.
