Purpose: To determine subtypes of pulmonary emphysema in miners by low dose chest CT. Materials and methods: 329 miners (245 men and 84 women) were enralled in this study who had undergone low dose CT scanning. The pulmonary emphysema classified as a centrilobular (CL), paraseptal (PS) and panlobular (PL). CL emphysema divided into the following five categories: trace, mild, moderate, confluent and advanced. PS emphysema was divided into the mild and substantial categories. Results: Pulmonary emphysema was found in 27.2% (90) of 329 miners. According to the survey, 82.2% (73) of miners had centrilobular emphysema and 17.2% (17) had a paraseptal emphysema. Among smokers we found higher emphysematous changes than in non-smokers (r=3.6 p<0.05). Conclusion: Among minerscentrilobular emphysema type were significantly higher than paraseptal type.
