Magic healing of Hirudo Medicinalis

Abstract

Introduction: Recently, researchers have been focused on the healing abilities of hirudo medicinalis, an alternative technique of nature therapy. Many clinical studies are going on leach therapy alone or in combination it with standart therapy and showed positive results in osteoartritis, cardio-, neuro vascular diseases and other chronic inflamation. Because of the limitation in knowledge, application of leach therapy is not widelly in our clincal practtice. Aim: This review aimed to present charcteristics of biology, specialy salivary secretion of hirudo medicinalis, and global trends in application of leachtherapy in the world. Materials and Methods: We analyzed and integrated recent publications concerning to biological characteristics of leeches, its secretion and therapeutic appeals in the world biomedical journals. Results: Multiifaceted effect of secretions by Hirudo medicinalis are widelly used in the world medicine for regeneration of damaged or dead tissues in the field of microsurgery, cardio-, neurovascular diseases, deep venous thrombosis, complications of diabetus mellitus, osteoartritis and other neuroinflamatory diseases. Conclusion: According to the recent publication materials, leechterapy has evolved into form of alternative treatment which is ofÏcially recognized in the field of medicine in the devloped world. Therefore our physions and researchers could use the unique action of this “live pharmaces“ in their clinical activities.
