Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate oral candidiasis pathogens at the level of species in the patients with removable dentures. Materials and Methods: A swab was taken from the morphological elements of the oral mucosa of the study participants who were admitted to the ‘’Rehabilitation Clinical Hospital’’ of Ulaanbaatar and placed in a transport medium (Amies). Independent colony was isolated carefully from pure cultures grown on candida chromium agar then was identified and tested for sensitivity to fungal drugs. After dipping the tube part of the drug sensitivity card in the prepared fungi turbid, examined it on the VITEK II compact device. The results of the study were processed using statistical software Stata-25 and Microsoft Excel Program, and detailed statistical analysis were performed. Results: The results show that study participants who have complete dentures present with the symptoms of dry mouth or hyposalivation in 45%, mouth irritation in 5%, and 75% of them were detected with oral candidiasis. On the other hand in the control group who does not have removable dentures candidiasis was found in 35%. Conclusion: In the identification of the candida pathogens species Candida albicans was detected in 75% of the cases, 5% Candida rugosa, 5% Candida famata, 5% Candida ciferrii, 5% Candida dubliniensis. In the control group Candida albicans species were found in 35%. Although the clinical symptoms were vague in the case group participants, several species of pathogenic fungi were identified compared to the control group, suggesting that oral fungal disease is present in a chronic form in people with removable dentures.
