The harmful use of alcohol is a major public health problem in Mongolia and worldwide. The government of Mongolia has made recently to reduce and prevent the negative health, social, and societal effects of alcohol. However, a theoretical framework of alcohol-related problems and their prevention measures has not been well documented in the country. in this paper, we review policies and measures to reduce alcohol consumption and related harms and discuss the challenges in future efforts. Having a common knowledge of alcohol policies, we believe, is a crucial step in evaluating the current alcohol policies in the country. According to the WHO, one of the most crucial steps to reduce alcohol-related harm is having written national alcohol policies. Research indicates that the most efÏcient ways to reduce alcohol-related harms are raising prices on alcohol through excise taxes and pricing policies; restricting alcohol availability; limiting advertising; implementing drink–driving countermeasures, and facilitating access to screening, interventions, and treatment, etc. Reducing alcohol consumption and alcohol-related harms requires evidence-based policies, political leadership, and understanding alcohol industry.
