Background: Pancreatic cancer is the 12th most common cancer with the highest mortality rate, and is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the Worldwide. In Mongolia, it is the 9th most common cancer and 86.6% of all diagnosed patient with PDAC with late stage. Lack of the early detection methods, pancreatic cancer is difÏcult to diagnose early; therefore, precursor lesions, that is transformed into PDAC, are needed to detect early. Moreover, CA-19-9 is most widely used biomarker for detecting PDAC and help to monitor result of treatment for PDAC. Aim: To study the pathological characteristics of malignant and benign pancreatic neoplasm in relation to the expression of CA-19.9 marker. Materials and Methods: A study was conducted on the medical history of 73 patients who underwent pancreatic surgery from January 1, 2023 to December 31 at the Mongolia-Japan Hospital and National Cancer Center. Results: Histologically, 29 (49%) cases of pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) were the most common, and CA-19.9 expression was increased in malignant pancreatic tumors but not in benign tumors. Conclusion: CA-19.9 may be a valuable biomarker for the differential diagnosis of malignant and benign pancreatic tumors.
