Examining the relationship between adaptability and student academic achievement and career choice motivation
Keywords:
Learning environment, Adaptation, SuccessAbstract
Background: Studies have shown that studying at university is one of the most stressful periods in an individual’s life and one of the most vulnerable to psychological stress. Students at this time receive less support and more responsibilities and workloads. Compared to working people, university students are exposed to more stress that is not suitable for them. There are no statistically valid results that show that the adaptability of students has a positive effect on academic success. On the other hand, it can be seen that the personal importance of the internal motivation of career choice affects both academic success and adaptability. Aim: To study the impact of students’ adaptability on academic success Materials and Methods: The study was conducted between March 30 and April 5, 2023, using a one-moment survey design, and consent was obtained from 189 students through an informed consent form. Results: 189 second-year medical students of Etugen University participated in the study, 30 (15.9%) were male and 159 (84.9%) were female. 71% of the respondents or 134 students are from rural areas and 29% or 55 students live in Ulaanbaatar. It was found that 33.9% of all students participating in the study or 63 students have a good ability to adapt to learning activities, 65.9% or 124 students have a moderate ability to adapt to learning activities, and 1.1% or 2 students have a poor ability to adapt to learning activities. Conclusion: Among all the students involved in the study, students who are able to adapt to the social and community school environment are the majority of the students who participated in the study. A good ability of students to adapt to society, school environment, and classmates increases their initiative to go to class, which affects their ability to master their chosen profession. 98.9% of the students who took part in the research had a good or moderate ability to adapt to learning activities. It can be seen that students who have adapted to the society, community, and school environment find it easier to adapt to their learning activities. The ability of society to adapt to the school environment and the ability to adapt to the learning environment are interrelated.
